WordPress begins the year by releasing its latest stable release of wordpress version 2.9.1 . This is an upgrade of the 2.9 version that was released in the third week of december 2009.
WordPress 2.9 saw a lot of changes in the way spam comments were being handled and the 2.9.1 version seems like a minor upgraded. I have not seen any major changes in the WordPress admin dashboard with the new version. Its very important that you keep your wordpress updated to avoid any security vulnerabilities to your blog, it does not matter even if its a minor upgrade.
If you are new to blogging and wordpress installation, I recommend you to download the WordPress handy guide installation process. If your blog is hosted on Blue Host its a very simple “One Click Installation” process to install wordpress.

It seems like they do updates like every single month!
They have been very consistent in upgrading off late, this is good for our blogs. I feel secure from security vulnerabilities each time I upgrade my blog

I usually like to wait for some time with new upgrades while the work out the bugs, had too many blogs and plugins crash when upgrading too soon.

I’ve reduced the number of plugins on my blog from 40 ( I used 40 plugins till six months back ) to less than 15 , I use only the very essential ones.
It reduces the load on the server and helps the blog load faster.
I use only 12 plugins on my blog
I hate to use all those junk plugins which adds to some minor functionality and affects the runtime functionality.

As far as WordPress 2.9.1 is concerned, is this the final release or beta? I was on the Wordpress site day before and 2.9.1 was available as a beta download. It is gratifying that they do not rest on their laurels and are quick to release updates. Got to love WordPress!!!

This version of Wordpress solves the scheduled posts bug that was in the 2.9 version. Well I think it is good that the Wordpress team are working round the clock for providing users the best blogging system that is around. I really commend them for their hard work

I don’t upgrade manually, and heard the stories of auto not working at all…I may wait it our a bit. Plus, I’m with JR in waiting for bug fixes.

Wordpress seens to release new versions quite fast, aren’t there any errors in upgrading a site? There is also a possible problem of the plugins not working in the newer versions
