The founders of Twitter Evan Williams and Biz Stone would have launghed all the way to the bank the second time, they sold Blogger.com to Google just five years ago. Since the launch of Twitter in March 2006, the value and usership of Twitter is only going up, with big companies like Google and Microsoft playing the watch dog and keeping their ears to the ground on its growth and usership.
Last week TechCrunch broke the news that Twitter was being acquired by Google, the news spread like wild fire in the online world and also on Twitter. But sources in Google confirmed that they had not made any bid for Twitter.
Why would Google want to acquire Twitter ?
Industry experts have been arguing for sometime that Twitter’s real value is in search. Twitter’s strength is its ability to the best real time database and search engine on the Internet, Google has no clue on how to handle real time searches. While Twitter has been a great sales channel for multinational companies, its also been an effective solution for brands in real time to talk to their audience and a revolution for live blogging
Twitter recently secured $250 million valuation funding and turned down an offer to be bought by facebook just a few months ago for half a billion dollar.
If Google or Microsoft has to bid for Twitter I think it should be in the range of ONE BILLION DOLLARS, now thats a big amount to cash in for a three year old company.

1Bln US$ today is much less than 1Bln 10 years ago for ICQ,

Whad the buzz. But still GooG shouldn’t buy them for more than 400 Mln , stocks will fall again in 2-3 months reallY sharply.

Would it really be that bad if Google bought Twitter? I mean, Blogger didn’t turn out so bad, did it?
I can’t believe that Google bought Twitter but if it happen then its really not so good.
I agree with the opinion above that everything will be OK and Twitter will stay Twitter for bloggers with its opportunities.
I too feel that it was only a rumour as such, google has no plans of buying twitter as of now.
Google is expanding its empire, so it may be possible to google to owe it in future.

I think it will be better for both twitter and Google like in case you tube. After it we can enjoy twitter more than before .

I think twitter ‘trends’ are really interesting. I don’t use the search on twitter yet but I do visit the search page to check out the latest trends.
Google already owns jive.ly, I am sure they stand to benefit from a twitter acquisition but they should ensure that they do not put lame adsense adverts there. Twitter needs to have more subtle advertisements.

I think Google is thinking about it for sure because when they say something they don’t mean it at first but they eventually go back and purchase what ever it is that interests them.

I still find it hard to track any significant additions to my stats from twitter. Maybe Dell could be making $1 million from it, but then that doesn’t seem a lot for the company that has revenues in the tens of billions of dollars..

I also don’t understand why twitter is so popular. I don’t know why people would want their lives to be so closely followed (at all times).. I think twitter really invades privacy. It is, however, very successful and if Google want to buy it, maybe it would be something good for their portfolio
