According to web analytics firm Statcounter , Bing has registered it’s first decline since its launch, Bing has lost more than one percentage of the search marketing in US in September.

Its market share fell from 8.51% to 9.64% in August. During this time Yahoo also showed a decline in its market share to 9.40 % from 10.50 %. Although Bing’s decline has been just over one percentage point, it sure would be a worrying factor for Microsoft.

Search Market September09 - StatCounter

With Bing and Yahoo losing market shares in the month of september, it should be no surprise who gained from them. Google gained by almost two percentage points to 80.08% in September from 77.83% the previous month.

As per StatsCounter the Data is based on an analysis of 4.6 billion search engine referring clicks (1.1 billion from the US) which were collected during the period September 2008 to September 2009 from the StatsCounter network of over three million websites.

Search Engine Marketing with Bing

Ever since Bing’s successful first week launch based on its search engine capabilities it has given Google a scare with positive reactions from the online community. A lot us us thought that the traffic was high in the first few weeks because of the initial product launch.

Lets see where Bing stands after a month, according to Compete, Bing is now the 13th most visited site on the web with 49.57 million unique visitors in its first month as Microsoft’s official search engine. Bing’s traffic was higher than that of Digg (38.96 million) Twitter (23 million), and CNN (28.54 million). This number are only US visitors, since Compete only track US online data.

Interestingly Bing has now surpassed Live.com, its predecessor, which actually garnered 79.4 million visits in June. This can mostly be attributed to the fact that a lot of Microsoft services, most notably Hotmail, are on the Live domain.

Bing is showing some solid numbers and growth for its first month in existence and Microsoft’s spend in seach engine marketing for the year will help in consolidating its growth and postion. Still, it’s got a long way to go before it can begin to challenge Google’s top position in search engine marketing race.
