Kill Google Page Rank

When I logged into Google Webmaster Tools last night I realised that Google had stopped showing the PageRank metric. Just to confirm what I saw I dug further and came across a thread that read PageRank Distribution removed from Webmaster Tools .

Susan Moskwa from the Google Webmaster Central team explained it was removed because Google keeps telling webmasters “that they shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much but more on building the content of their site ” They felt it was “silly” to keep telling webmasters that, and at the same time show it in Webmaster Tools. So Google removed it from Webmaster Tools.

I think is a good thing I am not for PageRank but for content, Google’s search engine relies very heavily on PageRank and not on relevancy of content. On one side they say that Google is all about relevancy on the other side when you do a search the best of blogs or sites with content don’t come up in the top search results. The sites that come up are based on PageRank (a metric used by Google to display sites in their search results)

A majority of the sites in the top search results don’t have great content but relevant inbound links that help then rank high on search results.

Google needs to take a stronger stance on PageRank, if they want webmasters and bloggers not to get obsessed with PageRank The old school of thought being that PageRank is very deep rooted with Google and Google search results, it will be impossible for Google to do away with PageRank.

Google needs to remove the PageRank from the Toolbar which is still present and still a factor amongst webmasters and internet marketers to consider the power of a website. Often the Toolbar is not updated and buggy.

By removing the PageRank from the Webmaster Tools is Google moving towards killing PageRank from their system completely. At one point back in 2007, Google asked webmasters about removing PageRank from the Google Toolbar but the discussion ended with no recourse from Google.

As a user of the Google search engine and a webmaster I would like to see Google search results based in the strength of content, traffic and user interactions but the present Google ranking system don’t take any of these factors into consideration when they display your site in the search results.

Will Google take a stronger stance this time and Kill PageRank ?

This Web Marketing Blog is Now PR 4

by ZK on June 29, 2009

google-page-rank-update

It looks like Google did another PageRank update yesterday and I notice a jump in PR for this Web Marketing blog. I also noticed a few of my internal pages have got an increase in PageRank.

Google seems to be increasing its frequency of PR updated, there has been about three to four PR updates this year. The last one was about six week ago.

With an increase in PR for this blog, Google seems to have changed its algo with this update as I noticed some SERPs move to the second page on Google.

With Twitter’s real time searches and Microsoft’s efforts on improving Bing, is Google feeling the heat in the search engine market ?

Did you notice the update for your website ?

Not too long ago directories were supposed to be the fastest way to increase your backlinks. All you had to do was submit your site to a few of them and watch your site move up the ranking and gain high PR.

Thats not the case now with Google having changed their algo to devalue site ranking for these directories. So are all directories devalued ? Of course not but most of the free directories are MFA ( Made for Adsense ) sites and spam sites. They lack the authority that Google values to list your site ranking.

Most sites that have Authority Status have moved to a paid model to list site rankings. It is a worthwhile investment to list your site on paid directories that have Authority than waste time submitting your site to free directories.

Below are 8 tips for effective site submission to directories.

1 ) Avoid paying for automated submissions :

Avoid paying a directory submission service company that promises to submit your site to hundreds of directories. The automated service submissions do nothing but devalue your site links on Google. Look for a submission service that does manual link building activities. Google values natural and manual link building activities.

2 ) Pay for Authoritative directories listing :

If you want to build a long and strong online business I recommend that you pay for top authoritative sites, you can easily drop a few hundred dollars on this initiative but its a good investment that will make your site very sold on Google and will increase ranking and PR very fast.

3) Keep a tab of your submission directories :

Make an excel sheet and note the directories your site has been submitted to, dont keep submittiing your site over and over again to the same directories until the directory blacklist your site. Many times website owners are not aware that their site has been blacklisted.

4 )  Use Effective Anchor Text :

When you submit your site to directories use effective anchor text. Never use the same anchor text again and again. Use several related keywords for anchor text to point back to your site.

5 )  Phase your site submissions :

Submit your site to many directories at the same time in a phased manner. When Google bot finds lots of back links pointing to your site over a period of time its going to value your site. An automated software submission will affect your ranking as it will submit to all sites in one shot.

6)  Submit to Page Ranked directories :

Ensure that you submit to only Pagk Ranked directories ( higher the better ) to maximise your submission effort.

7 ) Use descriptive site descriptions :

- Take time to draft a descriptive submission for your site, if posssible draft a few alternatives descriptors while submitting to directories to avoid duplication.

8 ) Submit to deep directories :

- Ensure that you also submit pages to directories ie. if you have a site on health include sub pages on Men’s Health , Women’s Health – submit your inner pages to diretcories for maximum benefit.
