WordPress has just released a security update, if you are running WordPress 2.8 or 2.8.1 you should immediately upgrade to WordPress 2.8.2. The WordPress team has been working on regular upgrades and security features to help secure your blog from hackers.

According to Matt, ” WordPress 2.8.2 fixes an XSS vulnerability. Comment author URLs were not fully sanitized when displayed in the admin. This could be exploited to redirect you away from the admin to another site. Download 2.8.2 or automatically upgrade from the Tools->Upgrade page of your blog’s admin.”

The upgrade changes only 10 files and does not touch the database, all you need to do is Click on Automatic upgrade to install the new WordPress 2.8.2. You can also download the plugin and install it on your server.

No. I used to use WordPress, but my site was hacked and I lost all my posts which I spent so long writing

I don’t think the security has improved much. I read about a load of blogs being hacked not long ago.

You are right, there have been blogs that have been hacked, thats why wordpress team is working hard to ensure that your blog is protected…you need to ensure that your blog is upgraded each time there is a new upgrade version , do not delay the update ..The latest version is 2.8.2

Thanks for telling us about this ZK. I’ve yet to upgrade my WP to the latest version, I’m still stucked on Version 2.7.1 if I’m not mistaken, but I did upgrade some of my blogs to 2.8.1, not really like the widget part. Anyway, going to look at 2.8.2.

You must upgrade to the latest version, its like upgrading a plugin with the automatic click…with the old version your blog is very vulnerable to being hacked

Well I just found notice and I upgrade it. I didn’t notice any major changes but it looks good for me and I think it’s not harm to use latest version of wordpress!

Just upgraded on my main blogs. For the ones I hardly update, I usually just wait for big upgrades and do those all at once. Probably a bad idea, but I am a lazy webmaster after all.

Most definitely! I always am careful to ensure that I upgrade my blogs as new releases come out because I have been exploited by security loop holes in the past and it hurts.
