How to use Facebook Timeline for Business Pages

by linda on March 17, 2012

Facebook introduced the Timeline to the public giving them a change in their Profile page. Facebook users who choose to add a timeline to their profile begin a story line from their day of birth till today’s day. As the social network caters to both people and businesses, the Timeline is now available for Fan Pages also.

Read through this article as I cover some awesome Facebook Timeline features that can help grow your business the next level.

Cover Photo:
A Facebook member will be able to add a cover photo on his/her timeline. A cover photo is a bigger image similar to a banner which measures 851X315 pixels. Take the advantage of the cover photo to put up an impressive logo, sale banner, important events etc. It is an attraction to any visitor who visits your fan page .

Facebook Timeline for Cover Photo

You can add a fabulous cover photo keeping in mind the given below restrictions from Facebook.

1. Facebook restricts businesses giving their contact information such as an email address, company website address or postal address on a cover photo. You need to give all these in the About section of your Page.

2. Adding details of product price or purchase information is not allowed.

3. The cover should not have features like Share this or Like or any other Facebook site features.

Milestones:
Taking the opportunity to record all your successes and milestones achieved with Milestone Posts. You can start recording from the day your business kicked off, goals achieved thereby and future events on the cards. Share an interesting story with your fans and the entire community at any given point of time on your timeline.

Direct messages:
Facebook had removed the option to send messages as users had spam messages in their inbox everyday. However, Facebook has brought the message option back and businesses can communicate with their fans by sending messages. Direct messages serve the purpose of e-mail marketing for your business. Any member who likes your page will receive a message in their inbox.

All your fans will be able to send private messages and establish a direct contact with you and your business. You can also turn off the message feature when not required.

New Admin Panel and Admin Controls:
The new admin panel includes notifications, messages, insights all in one location. Under notifications, you can respond to people who send a message and view your latest insights. Insights help you to analyze preferences of your fans. When you add a campaign, watch the metrics and change according to how your fans react.

Facebook Page owners will have the ability to assign five levels of admins based on their job functions. Each admin will be given access to the features you designate.

Photos, Likes, and Apps:
You can find photos, likes and apps at the top of your page. You will able to change the order of everything else except for photos which shows up as the first one. Your fans will only see the first four and can see all once they hit “view all”.

Set your top 3 apps in such a way that you can promote other social networks you belong to and admins can customize the display image for the apps that appear in the toolbar.

Pin a post:
Pin a post to share an update with your community at the top of your page for up to 7 days. A great way to send across information, promote deals and events with event information, images and links to customers.

Facebook has proved itself being an innovator with the Timeline for Facebook Pages. Businesses need to make good use of it and attract fans to their Facebook page.

Yes this is true but i think timeline option is enough well only for company profiles because it helps lot to promote your product in large banner beside that from my opinion this is not good option to apply on personal profile.

yes you are right companies can make good use of the options in the timeline to promote their products and enhance brand awareness, but this is not good for personal profile as you said…

I can not agree more that Facebook timeline can really help a business. This will be a different marketing strategy wherein the customers can easily know the business very well and interact. Plus, the cover photo can be like a banner of the business.

Timeline for business page is useful to show the successful history about the company. However after the use of timeline, business page looks similar to the personnel page.

I was kinda looking for the right size of the banner I hope your info will help me generate a good one and in actual size.

By the way- Facebook has no difference now between timeline for pages or profiles. At least in the look.

Hi Delwar thanks for stopping by go ahead with a great banner…

I have 2 FB fanpages. It was a bit hard in the beginning adjusting to this new TimeLine (I think the new auto-switch over date is March 20 ). But, I somehow found my way to navigate around it all. Maybe I am one of those who don’t like the changes.

But it’s easier now… I have garnered some followers / LIKES. I made sure all relevant information is displayed in the “ABOUT” section.
