What the F**K is Social Media ?

by ZK on September 1, 2009

If you ask brand managers and internet marketing managers about social media, chances are that they will tell you one of the two things :

- It’s useless and does not help in selling my brand or product
- We are in the process of building a Social Media Strategy

Whenever I hear or read the above lines, I interpret that most internet marketers, just don’t get social media and the value it can bring to the brand or product.

Now, if you are struggle to explain social media to your clients or to your boss, just flip the presentation “What the F**k is Social Media” by Martha Kagan. The stats cited in the presentation make it well worth the read, after reading the entire presentation if your client or boss is still unclear about “What is Social Media” and “Why they should be using it” then even God can’t help them.

Very amusing video. I sometimes wonder if we are doing all these social media things because someone says it’s the thing to do. I have seen the traffic to my blogs increase by submitting posts to social media site.

Awesome! I can’t believe that many brands are not even using social media online today, especially since it is one of the best ways to establish relationships with many people and get your name out there. Even celebrities have caught on to the Twitter craze, so you’d think that other businesses would give social media a chance.

There are many good companies, which is not using social media to target peoples. But this is really very effective way.

I’d like some recommendations for books about social media marketing. Specifically, best practices and examples of how companies are using sites like Facebook/Myspace/Twitter to build their businesses.

I’m one of the naysayers of social media. Perhaps our area does not ‘get’ social media, but I’m not seeing the advantages of social media that folks are hyping. We have our social profiles in place, kinda like a Navy has ships when there are no threats. We are ready if our neck of the woods decides to take up Twitter, Facebook, etc. But for now, we’ll stick with more traditional forms of online marketing.

Internet marketing and branding mostly revolves around social media sites. Without them, they would probably love a huge margin of their sales. Due to the fact that social media sites are nothing but viral, they are making more and more profits as technology and Internet progresses due to the fact that social media sites make information that much more viral.

Too funny, a talented social media person must be extremely innovative, resourceful, intellectual and be constantly interacting with other knowledgeable people in the field. Very few people fall in to that category, I know I don’t.

Some years ago using the generally liked websites with lots of bookmarks could be like a suggestion but nowadays for the professionals they may be like a must actually.

A lof of small businesses made huge success because of social media. It is a very powerful tool if used right. Its just not all marketers don’t know how yet. Don’t they realize huge companies and the US President himself have huge presence on Social media networks? That alone should move them and act quickly.
